Officers from the Greenwich Police Department responded to the intersection of Hendrie Avenue and Riverside Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, where there was a report of a suspicious driver in the area.
When trying to stop the alleged vehicle, police said that the 16-year-old - whose name will not be released due to his status as a youthful offender - attempted to elude officers and ignored their commands to stop the vehicle.
The driver was clocked driving faster than 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. According to police, the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights and failed to stay in his lane.
Police said that the chase ended when the driver crashed. Two passengers were spotted fleeing from the vehicle. The driver was apprehended and taken into custody. DMV records would find that he didn’t have a driver’s license.
The boy was arrested and charged with reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without a license, failure to display lights and speeding. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 16 to respond to the charges.
